I actually prefer the anime version of this, because it does a really good job of showing Luke just totally breaking down over the replica thing. It had been a REALLY AWFUL DAY full of genocide (policide?), betrayal, abandonment, and finally losing his past and name and identity and he just sort of loses it 8D;

This is the only time Luke has ever really felt hate, and I do think he was, at least for a bit, genuinely trying to kill Asch. But it was really just the hate of suffering and fear and childishness. He does resent Asch a bit after this, but obvs gets over it before long.

NOTE that Asch and I assume that Asch won this battle. But there isn't anything to see if you lose to Asch. He just goes to kill Luke and Luke passes out.
